[Matches] LOSD vs DNI Match Writeup by Taara Taara 2008-07-22
Upcoming Match: DNI vs LOSD on Fortress

With the new DGL season well-underway and recent growing interest in DGL, I have decided to begin writing articles on upcoming matches. In this column, I will be concentrating on possible match-ups between certain players, things to watch for during the match, and the strengths of both teams for the match. What I'll not be doing is presenting a biased or harsh account. Sure, for some matches, there will be clear favorites, but surprises can always happen in Dystopia matches, where a 30 second backhack can completely change the game. So without further ado, here is my first article on the match between DNI vs LOSD on Fortress.

DNI is relatively new to DGL, though not to the clanning scene. Their team has recently undergone immense changes with the addition of multiple new American players, like Kalabalana, Big Toe Commando, and Lewd, to join the old Australian veterans, such as Smiley, Joker, and Bald Yeti. The team has succeeded brilliantly since joining DGL just 4 weeks ago. They go into this match on a 4 game winning streak, against WNX, TSG, NK, and PI. They undoubtedly have a strong team. They have an excellent decker in Vixen, as well as, two strong glers in Unaco and Big Toe. This should prove quite useful in fortress where strong deckers are essential throughout the map, and good glers are especially useful defending the 4th and 5th objectives. One disadvantage DNI will have in the match is the timing of it. Currently set at 3PM Est on Sunday, this will not allow many of DNI's Australian players to play, depriving them of some of their best players. Nonetheless that has not stopped DNI in many of their previous matches, such as their recent win against PI, and with a 77% prediction score, DNI do seem to be the favorites in this matchup.

Unlike DNI, LOSD has been active in the current DGL since its beginning, as well as, incredibly active on the former Battle Hub. Though with less of an impressive record than DNI, LOSD has undoubtedly been improving recently and really have been consolidating their team. LOSD posted a convincing win in their recent match against NK and goes into the match with DNI as strong as ever. One major advantage they have is their deep bench. With 16 players, and nearly all of them active, LOSD has a strong base to choose from. They have multiple players who are strong in both cyberspace and meatspace, such as Atomy, Dawn, and Kinto. Furthermore, LOSD have a record of beating the odds, recently winning a match when they only had a 19% prediction score. That said, LOSD will have to put up an impressive showing to stop DNI, spirits high over their past 4 wins.

Regardless, the DNI/LOSD match is bound to be interesting, considering the ping issues that will arise when DNI is forced to play in Germany, and LOSD is forced to play in the Western US. This will be especially interesting on fortress, considering the ping is bound to give attacking deckers a much stronger advantage, assuming attackers play on their home turf (a common custom in DGL matches). The preliminary time for the match, though LOSD has yet to respond, is 3:00 PM EST on Sunday for anyone who would like to watch it. I will be writing another article when it gets closer to the match, hopefully interviewing key players in the match and what they think of their chances.

Until next time,

Taara.
