[Matches] This Weekend's Matches Overview
2008-08-01
Hello again, everyone. I apologize for not being as active in writing articles recently, but I hope to make it up with this one.
Firstly, there were some incredibly exciting matches last week. DNI and LOSD had a quite competitive and good match. Both teams played quite well, but DNI posted a strong win with an incredibly quick and decisive attack, capping the map in 12 minutes.
That said, both teams were quite impressive with many memorable objective saves and caps.
Perhaps the most surprising match last week was between PSY and Heavies. Heavies posted an excellent and decisive win and was clearly the better team of the two. Heavies capped the map in 8 minutes, whereas PSY could only manage to take the 3rd objective on detonate, 2 seconds before the end of the round. It was clear that heavies won the match through a strong and coordinated defense on the 2nd objective, where, if my memory serves me right, they held till nearly the 14th minute. In what was PSY's 1st lost of the season, Heavies proved that they are not only seeking the one-time upset, but rather seeking to be THE best in DGL. I was also glad to see that nearly 25 people watched the match and listened to shoutcast. I know Donkey and I had a lot of fun, and I hope everyone else did as well.
Unfortunately I will not be able to do a shoutcast for this weekend's matches, because I'm going to be out of town. But, to make up for this, I'll now just give a preview of this weekend's matches and what everyone should watch for.
We have three big matches coming up this weekend, LOSD vs Kaya, Heavies vs DNI, and PI vs PSY.
DNI vs Heavies will probably be the biggest match to watch this weekend. Both of these teams come off of strong and convincing wins. Both teams also have significant experience on fortress. Heavies in multiple matches vs PSY and DNI in their most recent match vs LOSD. There are few important things to watch for in this match. First, who is controlling cyberspace? Fortress is heavy on cyberspace action, so if one team is really controlling cs, then the other team will be put at a significant disadvantage. By maintaining control of cs, a punk team will have a much easier times taking objectives, especially 2nd of course, 3rd and 4th. Also, the first 3 objectives of Fortress have historically been capped quite quickly, within 5 minutes by many successful teams. So note if one team is able to hold the 3rd on defense for longer than this. If one team is holding into the 8th minute mark on the 3rd objective, the attacking teams prospects for capping the map are quite slim indeed. It is clear that on fortress the reactor and the data storage are the two objectives where a strong defense can be mounted. Expect both heavies and DNI to have a strong spam defense that is tough to break on both of these objectives. My favorite for the match are heavies, who now according to predictions sit at 83 percent, but DNI is a tough team and quite a formidable one on fortress, and it should be quite an exciting match.
I will not comment on PI vs PSY, since I will be a little bit biased
Though I see PSY as clear favorites going into this match, I hope we can pull an upset and lower the prediction scores of 81 percent of you
The last match this weekend will be LOSD vs Kaya. This should, as always, be an interesting matchup. I might be a bit off the mark here, but I found the choice of silo to be very interesting for LOSD. This is because I think silo is not the best map for either LOSD or Kaya. LOSD seems to be much stronger at fortress with their deep decking base, whereas Kaya seems to be quite strong on vaccine, where Ocun's gling, Norb's mking, and Rush's ioning can really shine. So I definitely think this will be quite an interesting match. Players in Kaya have recently really picked up gling on silo, most notably Marvin and Rush. This should definitely help them out, especially on the first and second objectives where good gling is crucial to a strong defense. Also, it is clear LOSD has really improved their attack, with Atomy being an excellent attacking AR and 0 being a strong attacking gler. Yet again, as with all of the matches this week, the odds are heavily stacked to one team, with Kaya holding a prediction rating of 88 percent. It would indeed be a stunning upset if LOSD could dethrone unarguably the reigning Euro team in DGL.
Whew, well I think that is all for today. Despite no planned shoutcast, welcome yourself to watch these matches. All three are bound to be quite good matches. PSY vs PI is scheduled for 7PM CDT on Friday. DNI vs Heavies is scheduled for 9PM EDT on Friday. And lastly, Kaya vs LOSD is surprisingly not scheduled yet?? Strange. Well just look at the DGL forums for the time for that match.
Well, have an excellent weekend!
Until next time,
Taara
